First posted Feb. 6, 2006
On Oct. 28-30, 2005, the National Psoriasis Foundation 2005 Chief Residents' Meeting was held in partnership with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Nearly 100 chief residents from 67 programs in the United States and Canada attended the annual conference in Chicago, Ill., to learn more about managing patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
The program, chaired by Steven Feldman, M.D., Ph.D., focused on efficacy, safety and treatment algorithms for the four major categories of psoriasis treatment, including topical therapy, phototherapy, traditional systemics and biologics. Other participating faculty included Ken Gordon, M.D., Robert Kalb, M.D., Mark Lebwohl, M.D., Eric Ruderman, M.D., Bruce Strober, M.D., Ph.D., and Abby Van Voorhees, M.D. Gerald Krueger, M.D., spoke about the Dermatology Foundation, and Liz Horn, Ph.D., director of research for the National Psoriasis Foundation, presented information on Foundation mission and programs.
The Chief Residents' Meeting helps residents gain awareness and understanding of all treatment modalities. Information on biologics significantly raises awareness and comfort in using these drugs.
"The National Psoriasis Foundation and AAD should be recognized for their commitment to this program. It's valuable in that it affects the residents' approach to psoriasis therapy in their own practice," said Dr. Feldman.
The weekend program, now in its seventh year, included lectures from nationally recognized experts on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, plus extensive question and answer sessions and social events.
