Overcoming insurance barriers for patients

Recognizing the challenges in working to overcome insurance issues, the National Psoriasis Foundation offers medical providers the following resources to help patients achieve access to treatment:
1) Letter writing to insurance companies
The National Psoriasis Foundation has compiled a list of links to health plan policies that are available online. With this list, you can find and reference policies easily. The resource also includes names and contact information of medical directors when available.
We have also prepared a sample letter that you can edit and send to an insurance company. Note: This letter is only an example. Please edit the letter to suit your needs.
If you are having difficulty obtaining reimbursements for patient treatments from an insurance company, your state dermatology society can assist you. To search for your state society, please click here.
The American Academy of Dermatology can also be a useful resource for doctors dealing with reimbursement-related issues.
2) Materials to help you "make your case"
When the National Psoriasis Foundation advocates for improved access to treatments, certain materials help us make our case effectively. These materials are provided for your use:
3) Additional disease education
Other materials can be provided to insurance companies to help educate about the nature of psoriasis, the burden of the disease and importance of treatment options:
