National Psoriasis Foundation welcomes new chief science and medical officer

Andrew Robertson, Ph.D., brings more than 20 years of biomedical research experience

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 18, 2012)—Andrew Robertson, Ph.D., joins the National Psoriasis Foundation as the organization’s chief science and medical officer. As a member of the Psoriasis Foundation executive team, Robertson will oversee all research initiatives, including the Foundation’s robust grant program, and guide the strategic leadership of its science and medical programs.

Robertson brings to the Foundation more than 20 years of biomedical, life science and academic research experience. Currently, he serves as the scientific coordinator for the European Molecular Biology Lab (EMBL), International Centre for Advanced Training, in Heidelberg, Germany, where he is responsible for strategic leadership and training of scientists, as well as developing more than 40 life science research meetings annually. Prior to EMBL, he was chief scientific officer at Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology, a nonprofit that connects researchers across disciplines at conferences to accelerate discovery in the life sciences.

In addition, Robertson was a professor of biochemistry at the University of Iowa. During his 15-year tenure on the faculty, he published more than 60 papers and received several grants from the National Institutes of Health for his laboratory's research on how proteins work.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego and his doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
