Genetics: Psoriasis research starts with the skin, becomes deeper with the immune system, and ends at the "beginning" with genetics. While it is known that psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease, researchers are exploring how the immune system becomes activated through genetic missteps.
National Psoriasis Foundation Tissue Bank: In order to speed up genetic research of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, the Psoriasis Foundation opened the National Psoriasis Tissue Bank (NPTB) in 1994.
The tissue bank remains the first and only public source of genetic material for researchers investigating psoriasis.
