We are pleased to announce the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) has been approved for funding by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to share research findings on the LITE Study.
Launched in 2019, the Light Treatment Effectiveness (LITE) study was a large pragmatic randomized study embedded in routine clinical practice that compared the effectiveness, safety (tolerability), and duration of treatment response at 12 weeks of home-based versus office-based nbUVB phototherapy for the treatment of plaque or guttate psoriasis across all skin types.
With this PCORI-funding, NPF will disseminate the results of the study to a wide audience of insurance payers, healthcare providers, and people living with psoriasis. Ultimately, the LITE Study findings demonstrated that home phototherapy is as effective as office phototherapy for plaque or guttate psoriasis in real-world clinical practice and has less burden on patients.
“More than 8 million people in the U.S. and 125 million worldwide live with psoriasis,” says said Leah M. Howard, the President and CEO of NPF. “The fact that we focused the LITE Study on addressing not only the safety and efficacy of home phototherapy, but also that we had such an inclusive group of research subjects representing all skin types makes the results that much more actionable. PCORI’s funding will allow us to reach as many patients, healthcare professionals, and payers as possible with the message that home phototherapy can be as effective and safe as light therapy in a doctor’s office, which isn’t always as accessible.”

This funding award has been approved pending completion of PCORI’s business and programmatic review and issuance of a formal award contract.
