Project Summary:

Psoriasis, a chronic skin disease, affects around 3.2% of American adults. This study aims to analyze blood samples from psoriasis patients to identify molecules that can predict treatment response and monitor disease severity. The statistical models developed in this project will play a vital role in enabling objective clinical decision-making for individuals with psoriasis.

How will your project help improve the lives of the 125 million affected by psoriatic disease?

Predicting treatment response will facilitate the selection of optimal treatment strategies for psoriasis patients, improving outcomes and reducing adverse events.

Why is psoriatic disease research important to you, personally? What role will this award play in your research efforts or career development?

My career goal is to improve the health care of patients with psoriatic diseases, and this award aligns with that goal.

Researcher Profile:

Dr. Feng is a Research Associate Professor at the Department of Dermatology and a Faculty at the Center for Genomic Medicine, University of Utah. Dr. Feng conducts research to identify disease genes, elucidate disease mechanisms, develop tools for clinical genetic testing, and identify biomarkers for early diagnosis and prediction of disease outcomes. He designs novel algorithms and software for researchers, clinicians, and genetic counselors. His research focuses on psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and cancers.
