About Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic disease related to the immune system. It causes swelling, pain, and stiffness in your joints and entheses (places where tendons and ligaments connect to bones). Roughly 1 in 3 people living with psoriasis also have PsA.

PsA Research
In 2019, the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) launched a highly collaborative multi-institutional grant initiative to address what the NPF community identified as a seminal challenge: the permanent damage and pain caused by the difficulty of diagnosing psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
Progress Toward a PsA Diagnostic Test
Because of your sustained support, NPF funded investigators have advanced the understanding of the development of PsA and taken significant steps toward quicker and more accurate diagnosis.
“This research lays the groundwork for prevention-focused strategies and more durable disease control, improving quality of life and long-term outcomes for people living with psoriatic disease,” Dr. Scher says. “NPF funding is what makes this progress possible.”
