5 summer fashion tips for ladies with psoriasis

| Sabrina Skiles

Whether it be loose and comfy harem pants or lightweight and stylish dresses, I’m always on the hunt for great summer fashion finds, especially when I’m managing my psoriasis flare-ups.

I firmly believe that you can still look and feel stylish while having psoriasis. So I started to find lightweight fabrics I knew wouldn’t irritate my skin. I mixed in bright colors and fun patterns, and before I knew it, I wasn’t stressing about the flare-ups I was having. I felt like myself again!

Here are my tips to dressing stylish in the summer with psoriasis.

1. Find fabrics that don’t irritate.

Bulky, scratchy fabrics are the worst when you’re having a flare-up. Look for lightweight fabrics, like cotton and viscose that allow your skin to breathe. This will keep you cool and comfortable when you’re living with psoriasis.

2. Quarter-lengths keep it subtle.

No one should ever feel obligated to cover up their psoriasis. But when I’m feeling particularly self-conscious at work, quarter-length sleeves are my go-to. Harem or jogging pants are favorites as well because they are both stylish and comfortable. You can wear them long or hike them up when the temperature heats up.

3. Dress it up with flowy dresses.

These are a wardrobe staple for me. I live in maxi dresses in the summer and shirt dresses at work because they don’t cling to my skin or irritate my psoriasis. Bonus: You can also transition some of those summer dresses in the colder months by pairing them with tights and a blazer.

4. Look for fun patterns and bright colors.

Let’s be honest, you’re always looking for a reason to smile if you happen to be experiencing a flare-up. Opting for fun patterns, like polka dots or gingham or bright, cheerful colors is an instant mood-lifter.

5. Who doesn’t love accessories?

Whether it’s a sassy pair of stilettos, strappy wedges, a colorful clutch or a bold statement necklace, accessories are an easy way to dress up any outfit and give it that extra pop of personality without breaking the bank.

Don’t let a flare-up get you down. You can be stylish and comfortable at the same time. Try out some bold patterns and prints. Add a pop of color to your outfits. Give your wardrobe some versatility with a chic pair of heels or a funky handbag. Whatever you do, have fun with it and be comfortable with the skin you’re in.
