Double your impact on Giving Tuesday

| Steve Bieler

As the year draws to a close, we're hoping we can count on your support to help us fund some very worthwhile research into psoriatic disease on Giving Tuesday – Tuesday, Nov. 28.

For this year’s Giving Tuesday, the National Psoriasis Foundation has two new tricks up our sleeve:

  1. We’re concentrating on our youngest community living with psoriatic disease.
  2. Your gift on Giving Tuesday could be doubled. The money you raise could be doubled. You could have twice the impact in our common battle to find a cure for psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected.

Here’s how we’re going to do it:

A challenge grant for kids

All Giving Tuesday donations will go toward our 2018 Pediatric Psoriasis Challenge Grant, a collaboration with the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance. NPF will invest up to $150,000 to fund two $75,000 research projects that address any aspect of the disease, including the cause, diagnosis or treatment of pediatric psoriasis and/or related comorbidities.

A Facebook Live event

We’ll go live on Facebook on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11:30 a.m. Eastern/8:30 a.m. Pacific time, with a half-hour discussion called “Raising a Child with Psoriasis.” The stars will be 15-year-old Ashwin Kumar and his mom, Anju Kumar, of San Diego, California.

Ashwin, who has been diagnosed with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, was a 2016-17 NPF Youth Ambassador. “When I found out about NPF, my life became infinitely better,” he said. “I was exposed to new kinds of treatments, ways to cope, and a support community that I will always be grateful for. Without them, I don’t know where I would be today.”

Michael Siegel, Ph.D., NPF’s senior vice president of research and clinical affairs, will host “Raising a Child with Psoriasis.” While watching this event, you can donate to the cause (look for the hashtag #GivingTuesday).

Donations will be matched – up to $5,000 – thanks to a generous NPF board member. Mark your calendar for "Raising a Child with Psoriasis"!

Fundraise on Facebook for twice the impact

This year for Giving Tuesday, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match up to $2 million in donations made on Facebook to a U.S. nonprofit – up to $50,000 per nonprofit or $1,000 per fundraiser. The Gates Foundation match will begin at 8 a.m. Eastern time/5 a.m. Pacific. As soon as the $2 million is raised, the matching ends!

So join us, get up early, and think of this as a nonprofit doorbuster deal! If you donate just $25 to us at dawn on Tuesday (depending on where you live), your gift could be worth $50! And once you’ve donated, share, share share! Share with your friends — let them know you’ve contributed to NPF and encourage them to do the same.

You might have to wait a year to find a fundraising deal with more clout than this one.

As a bonus, Facebook will waive all processing fees for every donation made to nonprofits on Giving Tuesday.

Facebook also provides charitable giving tools to help you collect donations and enable supporters to fundraise for your nonprofit directly on Facebook.

Use a page, post, ad or live video donate button to collect donations directly on Facebook, so supporters don’t have to leave your Facebook page to give. Your friends can also tell their stories, spread awareness and rally around a goal.

Thanks for supporting NPF and our research into the causes and treatment of pediatric psoriatic disease!

Driving discovery, creating community

For more than 50 years, we’ve been driving efforts to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected. But there’s still plenty to do! Learn how you can help our advocacy team shape the laws and policies that affect people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis – in your state and across the country. Help us raise funds to support research by joining Team NPF, where you can walk, run, cycle, play bingo or create your own fundraising event. If you or someone you love needs free, personalized support for living a healthier life with psoriatic disease, contact our Patient Navigation Center. And keep the National Psoriasis Foundation going strong by making a donation today. Together, we will find a cure.
