Bingo – as Team NPF practices it – pulled in 168 bingo enthusiasts on the night of Feb. 25, 2017, at the Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon. They came together to have fun, support a good cause, enjoy dinner, wine and cocktails, flex some muscle during the silent auction, and score some prizes!
By the time everyone had gone home and the last daubers had been packed away, the happy crowd had raised $33,000 – more than 100 percent of the evening’s goal.
The auction featured a wine tasting along with food for eight in the fabled wine cellar of a local donor. The winners, Kris and John Bockmier of Vancouver, Washington, said the only difficulty will be choosing the six friends to bring along!
“Best event evah,” a bingo organizer modestly proclaimed.
Credit where credit is due
Today, Team NPF Bingo is a juggernaut that’s rolling across the country (with thanks to our corporate sponsor, Lilly). In 2015, it was the brainchild of one woman, Sue Jaqua of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Jaqua has been an NPF member since 2005. She got the idea for holding a bingo night from her husband Evan’s employer and their annual summer picnic. “As a member of the Portland Division of NPF, we are always looking for ways to raise funds as well as awareness. I came up with the bingo idea as a way to do both.”
Jaqua got the go-ahead from NPF, formed a committee, and after a few “wild and hectic” months of preparation, opened the doors for BingoFest. “It all fell into place thanks to a great committee and the support of NPF,” she said.
