There’s no easier way to help the National Psoriasis Foundation than by setting up your own Facebook fundraiser. All funds raised goes towards our mission to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected. It takes just a few clicks to get one up and running and, thanks to Facebook not taking any fees, every dollar raised will go to a great cause.
While it’s easy to get up and running, garnering traction from your friends and family will need some extra consideration on your part. To help you get the most out of your fundraiser, here are some tips to increase those dollars coming in.
1. Timing is everything
If you are planning to host a Facebook fundraiser for a specific event (say, for your birthday or the holidays), giving a campaign space to breathe will help maximize exposure. Plan your fundraiser to go live with a long enough lead time to your event (a week is a good rule of thumb) and keep it going a few days after for any last-minute stragglers.
2. Cast a wide net
It doesn’t matter if you have 10 friends or 100,000 friends on Facebook, everyone you are connected to should be invited to participate. Why have a network if you’re not going to use it? Thankfully, Facebook makes it incredibly easy to alert everyone to your fundraiser with minimal effort. Using Facebook on a PC browser:
- Click Invite on the first name on your friend list and press the “Tab” key to highlight the next name.
- Press the “Space” key to invite the highlighted person.
- Continue alternating between pressing “Tab” and then “Space” until you’ve invited everyone on your list.
Depending on how fast you are with those fingers, you can bring everyone on board in just a few minutes.
3. Set yourself up for success
When setting up a Facebook fundraiser, you’re going to need to determine a monetary goal. Keeping that goal reasonable will ensure that your efforts are successful. Setting a high limit like $1,000 might psychologically deter someone from contributing $5. But have your goal at $100 and that $5 will make a huge difference in getting across the finish line.
4. Friends of your friends are your friends
Increase the scope of your campaign with the help of your friends and family. While not everyone you know may be able to financially support your fundraiser, ask them to spread the word by sharing your campaign. This will make sure that everyone you know can participate in those good feelings that come with helping a great cause.
5. Keep everyone in the loop
Periodic updates are a great way to keep your friends and family engaged (and catch those that might have initially scrolled past your fundraiser). Celebrate milestones, like hitting 50 percent of your goal, and continue to challenge others to help you cross the finish line. Sending personalized “thank you” messages is also a nice touch to show that you really appreciate the generosity of those in your life.
Following these simple tips will help you get the most out of your Facebook fundraiser and will increase the impact your charitable action will have on the lives of the millions living with psoriatic disease. Thank you for your support.
