Actress Katie Lowes Reveals Her Journey with Psoriasis for the First Time Through “Psoriasis: The Inside Story” Awareness Campaign

In partnership with the National Psoriasis Foundation and Janssen, Katie Lowes aims to empower people living with psoriasis to recognize the serious impact of their disease on everyday life and encourage them to share their story and seek help.

Portland, Ore., March 17, 2017—The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) and Janssen Biotech, Inc. announced today the launch of Psoriasis: The Inside Story, a campaign that aims to shine light on the profound impact that psoriasis has on the lives of more than 7.5 million Americans[1]. To empower those living with psoriasis to take action and live their fullest life, actress Katie Lowes and other leading advocates offer personal perspectives and support on psoriasisinsidestory.com[FM[1] . The multi-partner program also teams up with lifestyle experts to offer advice within key areas uncovered by research as those most impacted by psoriasis—staying active, travel, style and relationships. [2]

“I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis at a time when I was simultaneously experiencing some of the proudest moments of my life—a recent engagement and my greatest career success—so when my doctor first told me my diagnosis, I was shocked and embarrassed,” said Katie Lowes. “I understand the way psoriasis affects the way you think and, ultimately, the way you live, because what no one else sees is how much it invades your thoughts, influences your decisions and shares your everyday moments. One of the biggest things I’ve learned about living with this disease is that you have to take matters into your own hands. That’s why I am so honored to team up with Janssen and The National Psoriasis Foundation on Psoriasis: The Inside Story.”

By visiting www.psoriasisinsidestory.com, visitors gain access to resources and support, including shared personal experiences, and tips and advice from Katie Lowes and other leading psoriasis advocates. Throughout 2017, Psoriasis: The Inside Story will continue to engage with the psoriasis community through regular updates to site content and opportunities to interact virtually with campaign ambassadors.

“The National Psoriasis Foundation is proud to partner with Janssen Biotech, Inc. on Psoriasis: The Inside Story because we know that isolation is a common consequence of psoriatic disease and we understand how critically important connection is for the psoriasis community,” said Michael Siegel, Ph.D., Vice President of Research Programs for The National Psoriasis Foundation. “Visitors to www.psoriasisinsidestory.com can learn from others in their community and access helpful resources, including advice on how to improve interactions with your care team, ultimately leading to the best possible health outcomes.”

Psoriasis: The Inside Story has teamed up with lifestyle partners who have considered the experiences of people living with psoriasis in order to offer customized disease information and tips to empower individuals to talk openly with their doctor and take control of their psoriasis.

  • Fodor’s Travel: A vast team of global contributors offers hand-picked, expert advice and helpful travel considerations to help psoriasis patients build a personalized trip that works best for them.
