National Psoriasis Foundation pays tribute to renowned dermatologist and psoriasis expert
Mark G. Lebwohl, M.D., recognized for lifetime commitment to psoriasis
National Psoriasis Foundation honored Mark G. Lebwohl, M.D., professor and chair of dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, for his lifelong dedication and contributions to psoriasis with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.
Well known and regarded by dermatologists worldwide, Dr. Lebwohl has dedicated his career to improving the lives of people with psoriasis and advancing the field of medical dermatology.
"Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Lebwohl has mentored countless young physicians, paved the way for current psoriasis patient care and advocated for improved access to care for millions with psoriasis," said National Psoriasis Foundation president and CEO Randy Beranek. "We are proud to honor his tireless commitment to the psoriasis community."
Lebwohl's accomplishments include leading many professional dermatological organizations and lecturing on psoriasis in the U.S. and abroad. He is currently on the board of directors for the American Academy of Dermatology and chairman of the National Psoriasis Foundation Medical Board.
In addition, Lebwohl is instrumental in clinical trials for many new dermatologic therapies; has written and edited books on psoriasis treatment; serves on the editorial board for several prominent medical journals; and works with the Psoriasis Foundation to advocate for changes in health policy, such as better access to treatments.
The Foundation also recognized Lebwohl's years of mentorship to young scientists pursuing psoriasis research by establishing the Dr. Mark G. Lebwohl Medical Research Fellowship Awards, designed to foster academic careers in psoriatic disease research by providing one-year stipends to support the work of early-career dermatologists.
Lebwohl received his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Foundation's inaugural Commit to Cure Gala on June 7 in New York City.June 21, 2012
