M. René Islas
Chief of Staff
M. René Islas joined NPF in 2022. He collaborates with the executive team, department heads and Board of Directors to support improvements in NPF systems and processes, to identify and pursue strategic opportunities and as a representative of the CEO. Among the projects he assists with are the budgeting process, office logistics, and telling the story of progress on the NPF Strategic Plan and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Plan.
Islas is a non-profit management leader and entrepreneur. His mission is to increase organizational effectiveness by building a shared vision, a strong plan, and fidelity execution of corporate programming. Islas recently led a multi-dimensional services firm that supports mission-driven non-profit organizations to make critical leaps in their service model. He leverages his expertise developed over two decades in the non-profit, for-profit, and government sectors. He is a recognized expert in public policy. His government experience includes serving as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Education and the Chief of Staff for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. He managed the overall operations, policy development, and administration of programs within the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.
